In 1992 Sergeant Melody Naatz became the first female drill instructor of Marine Corps history. This huge achievement only happened a little over twenty years ago but has changed women in the Marines drastically. Drill instructors supervise and assist in commanding and instructing a recruit platoon. This achievement is huge for women because it shows that women are capable of training marines which is a huge responsibility itself. Naatz was a leader in training marines and encouraged other women to look up to her. With this great achievement women were inspired to work hard in earning high positions and to live on the legacy of changing what women are to the Marines. In the twenty years since many women take on the duty of being a Marine and are striving to be allowed on front lines.
