Opha Mae Johnson
On August 13th, 1918 Opha Mae Johnson was credited the first woman to enroll for service of the Marine Corps Reserve. During this year, over 300 other women were enrolled to replace men working clerical duties on the stateside reserves. This allowed men who were ready for active service to be sent overseas where their help was needed. Opha Mae Johnson is widely known for being the first women whom accepted Marine duty in the year of 1918 that will create a legacy to follow. Taking this step will encourage other women to serve for their country and will progress further achievements for women in the Marine Corps.
