Women Marines Today
Today women hold more responsibilities then the women who began the legacy in 1918. On the other hand women still are not allowed to perform in certain regions of the Marine Corps. For example, women in today’s world are still not allowed in direct ground combat. Yet women are still pushing their limits to expand the legacy of Women Marines to be equal to the men. Recently for the first time the Marine Corps have allowed two women to go through the Combat Leadership Test which is 86 days crawling through obstacle courses, lugging heavy machine guns, navigating the woods at night. This course is extremely hard, failing 1 out of 5 men who take it. The reason being is because this course will show if one is capable of potentially leading platoons of enlisted men on the battlefield. Women are prohibited from this because of physical means. Two women have anonymously volunteered to run the course to help research for the Marine Corps of allowing women to attempt to take this test. There is no telling of what will become of this but the women partaking in this study tell reporters that they wish to open this door of opportunity for other women in the future. The legacy to this day is still being fulfilled by women, and slowly women have been able to change the face of women in the Marine Corps. One day women may be able to achieve great lengths with the legacy and open up more opportunities for women to be a part of.
